Imagine a multi-stage air purification system using advanced Internet-connections that cleans outdoor air of very fine particulate and organic vapor impurities, bringing fresh air into the building, can also recycle indoor air to remove indoor pollution, monitors its own performance and can inform the user/owner of the need to replace the filters. By incorporating self-testing sensors, the unit can detect and alert when the filters are ineffective. Guided by an environmentally conscious philosophy to recycle the filters instead of disposing of them in a landfill, the company will provide a network of recycling kiosks and recycling centers in major urban markets.
Imagine a wildfire that has destroyed many buildings in an urban wild-lands interface zone and where the resulting air quality has been determined to be “dangerous” to breath; as surrounding communities having been warned to stay indoors due to the risk of health effects from the atmospheric pollution caused by the fires. Recent volcanic emissions have concerned residents of Hawaii, as volcanic gasses contain many dangerous compounds. Or consider an industrial accident that occurs in the middle of the night resulting in the unintended release of noxious or poisonous gases that drift into residential areas. Our system of Internet connected air purification units will be able to monitor the spread of a toxic cloud, warn the users, and adjust the system level of protection automatically.
Recent natural or man-made disasters and possible atmospheric pollution from unforeseen events overseas resulting in low-level radioactive fallout, or bio-warfare agents such as Anthrax bacteria, are also addressed by this product line (functions as an Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) whole house filter), to provide safe breathing for individuals or their families.
The need for clean indoor and portable personal air breathing equipment is great in today’s environmental pollution-aware market.

AireDefense System Description
Environmental Air Quality (EAQ) may be compromised by many factors. Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) has been a major concern for many years. Some regions of the developing world have very poor air quality, and the air quality of first world nations may suffer from temporary periods of poor air quality due to accidents, nature, and/or terrorist actions.

This product line defines a solution to accomplish these aims:
- Mitigate Effects of Indoor Pollution by introducing clean fresh air into the building
- Mitigate Infiltration of Outdoor Pollution into the house by positive interior pressurization
- Select Indoor Air Recycling or Outdoor Fresh Air Introduction into the living space

This current design of the AireDefense Mark III unit is manufactured of Stainless Steel, has a commercial TrueHEPA filter element, and utilizes three (3) activated carbon filters of 1100g capacity each for a total of 3.3Kg absorbent. The TrueHEPA filter is washable by the owner/user, readily available, simple to replace, and the carbon filter cartridges will be recyclable by the AireDefense company.
The initial price of $1295 represents a very good value to customers with respect to other options and overall performance levels. Estimated price of replacement HEPA filter $60 and Carbon filter set $145 is offered.
An optional interior mounting adapter ($245) will allow for an IAQ HVAC purification use. This adapter can be used to select air source from outside, or inside to clean the interior living space air with same filter unit.
A Filter Self-Testing Kit (FSTK) will also be made available for use with any air filter system made by others to assure the owner that the other units are still effective in operating. The FSTK will be marketed for $195.
AireDefense Mark III Whole House Air Purification Unit Removes PM2.5 Particles and Vapors
According to the World Health Organization, average annual PM2.5 levels (the most dangerous form of pollution) reach 56 µg/m3 in Beijing, 25 µg/m3 in Mexico City, 21 µg/m3 in Hong Kong, 20 µg/m3 in Los Angeles, 20 µg/m3 in Berlin, 17 µg/m3 in Paris, and 16 µg/m3 in London. Based on the findings of a 2013 study conducted at Harvard, these levels of pollution would result in population-averaged life expectancy reductions of 23 months in Beijing, 10 months in Mexico City, 9 months in Hong Kong, 8 months in Berlin and Los Angeles, and 7 months in Paris and London.
Our system can optionally select from operating to clean the indoor air, or replenish the air our family breathes, with clean outdoor air depending on the IAQ and the outdoor air conditions.
Executive Overview: Technology
Industrial Technology Multi-level Filtering System
By using a seven layer system of filters air that passes through the system is cleaned of 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns in diameter by the True HEPA filter element, then any reactive chemical vapors are absorbed and removed by the three stages of activated carbon media. Urban air quality is based on the levels of PM2.5 = i.e. particulates with aerodynamic diameters not larger than 2.5 micrometers (microns). Self-testing sensors will assure that the filters are in fact removing chemical impurities by periodic introduction of a proprietary safe vapor and sensors testing that the unit is indeed removing them as designed, built-in trust.
The benefits of total building air pressurization include keeping out man-made pollution, natural dusts & pollen, and any radioactive fallout if present.
In the optional indoor recycling operating mode a proportion of indoor vs outdoor air can flow into the system to purify the air from either source. The input air quality sensors (EAQ) will be able to determine the operating mode and log the sensor data appropriately. With units having this option the IoT software will display these data to the personal communication device (tablet or smartphone) for the user to check the indoor air quality vs the outdoor air quality and adjust the system preferences to suit the need.
Our systems can also mitigate infiltration where basements have exposure to Radon gas by providing a partial pressurization of the building air to keep the outside gaseous pollutants from entering the building envelope.
Filter Self-Test Kits
In the optional indoor recycling operating mode a proportion of indoor vs outdoor air can flow into the system to purify the air from either source. Marketing of Filter Self-Testing Kits (FSTK) to customers who have already purchased other air cleaners and desire to test the effectiveness of their units may create more sales than our filter units. Commercial and industrial filter testing applications are also an untapped market as today no similar testing system technology exists in the market.
